Bunion tanımı genellikle ayak başparmağının tarak kemiğiyle yaptığı eklemin içe bakan yüzünde oluşan kemik çıkıntısı oalrak tarif edilir. Bir de ayağın dış tarafı, 5. Parmakla tarak kemiğinin yaptığı eklemde olan vardır ki buna Tailor’s bunion da denir.
Çıkıntılar dar ayakkabılara zorlandıkça üzerinde nasır oluşmaya başlar. Ayakkabı giymeyi zorlaştırır ve ağrılıdır. Temelinde eklem bozukluğu, halluks valgus veya rigidus, kemik şekil bozukluğu, açılanma , tendon denge kusuru, genetik yapı, dar ve yüksek topuklu ayakkabı alışkanlığı olabilir.

Hafif olgularda özel yapılmış ayakkabılar, pedler ve ilaçlar, ileri derecelerde ameliyat gereklidir. Bunion ameliyatı sonrası seçilen yönteme göre iyileşme süresi iki ila 6 hafta arasında değişir.
